2013 Annual Letter
November 2013
Dear Friends of Children of Vietnam,
For the past four years, your generous donations have allowed us to purchase 1000 bicycles for the children in Vietnam. Your bicycle gift is a lifeline to these children and their families. Many rural parts of Vietnam are not car-accessible. There are only footpaths, suspension bridges and bike trails. Often times, a bicycle is the only mode of transportation for the entire family. It is the family “car” that takes the children and their siblings to school, the moms to market and dads to job sites. For many families, it is their most-valued possession.
Our volunteers work tirelessly to make sure your bicycle gifts go to those with the greatest need. First, the schools, churches and temples help us identify the poorest children. Second, we interview each child in his/her home, which often means having to follow a child on foot for miles. Third, we generate a list of children that are most in need of a bicycle. Once we receive your donations and know how many bicycles we can purchase, then we notify each child of the wonderful news. The children and their families anxiously wait for this news all year long. Many children confess they cannot sleep the night before we present them with their new bicycles. Among the Thank You letters we received, one child wrote “My parents are day laborers. They cannot buy me a bicycle to go to school. Now I am filled with happiness! I promise to take good care of this beautiful bicycle. I also promise to go to school and to listen to my parents. I will not disappoint you.”
For each $50 tax-deductible donation, we will purchase a bicycle for a child on your behalf. We will send you a picture of the child receiving your bicycle gift, holding a sign with your name. Your child will never forget this day.
This holiday season, please help us bring the good news these children have been waiting for. Please give your gift of life-changing love.
Yours in gratitude,
