2010 Walk for Wheels 5K Race
October 2, 2010

Please join FCVN for the “Walk for Wheels” 5K next Saturday 10/2/10 at 9AM! The event will take place at:
Glen Carlyn Park, Shelter 2
301 S. Harrison St.
Arlington, VA
Event details below:
FCVN’s fall fundraising project this year is to raise money to buy bicycles for some of the hundreds of minority children living in the mountains close to the border of Cambodia at Ha Tien, which is an 8 hr bus drive southwest of Saigon. These children currently walk barefoot across the mountain for 4-7 hrs to get to school. They have to carry enough food for 3-4 days, stay at the school, and when the food runs out, they walk …back home. The living quarters at the school are poorly equipped for the 600 kids that attend school there. There is 1 bathroom for girls, 1 bathroom for boys and 1 for the teachers.
With the bikes, we estimate it will take them 1-2 hrs each way, which is a do-able daily commute, and they can use the bikes to run errands, go to the market, etc. to help their family. The cost of each bike is $35-40 for 24″ wheels. It is our goal to raise enough money to provide 100 bicycles for the children.
Therefore, please come out on 10/2 for a 5K fun run/walk to help us get to our goals of 100 bikes!
